Our modern world is largely built on mathematics and understood with statistics. We develop students’ mathematical and statistical skills and understanding to unlock exciting futures in both areas.

In Junior Mathematics, (Years 9 and 10) students are placed in classes that cover the appropriate curriculum level to ensure they are working with others who are at a similar stage in their mathematical journey. Most students enter the college between level 3 and 6 of the curriculum in Year 9. At Years 9 and 10 they study Number, Algebra, Measurement, Geometry, Graphs, Probability and Statistics. In Year 10 students sit two NCEA Level 1 assessments. A small handful of students are accelerated to a full Level 1 course in Year 10.

In Senior Mathematics, students are guided by their teachers to choose the type of course that will allow them to pursue their interests and career aspirations. We offer courses that offer pathways to both Statistics and Calculus with Scholarship classes for our top-performing students. Many students are placed in extension or accelerated courses, but there are also courses available in practical trade mathematics.

  • Mathematics – general mathematics
  • Calculus – the branch of mathematics which deals with rates of change
  • Statistics – the branch of mathematics which deals with collecting and interpreting data
Calculus is important to me as it is challenging and has infinite concepts to explore. It teaches a way of thinking that is essential in the work field.
