Welcome to Rangitoto College Basketball—one of the largest and most dynamic sports programs at our kura. In 2026, our basketball whānau proudly supports 47 teams and over 470 student-athletes. From recreational players looking to enjoy the game with friends to high-performance athletes striving for national success, our program provides a supportive pathway for every player.

Premier Coaching Leadership

Our Premier teams are led by exceptional mentors dedicated to technical skill development, athletic growth and character building:

Premier Boys – Tom Higgins (Head Coach)

We are excited to announce Tom Higgins as our Premier Boys Head Coach. A valued PE and Health teacher at Rangitoto College, Tom brings a rich playing pedigree and a deep commitment to student-athlete development both academically and athletically.

Premier Girls – Brooke Blair (Head Coach)

Brooke continues her outstanding work with our Premier Girls program. In 2024, she made history by leading our team to the AA Secondary School National Championships—a milestone achievement for Rangitoto girls’ basketball. She is supported by Callum Blair and Mikey Graham

Competition Overview

Premier teams represent the college in the prestigious Auckland Secondary Schools Premier competition, while all regional and development teams compete in the Harbour Basketball league.

Recent Program Highlights

The strength and momentum of our program continue to grow on the regional and national stage:

• Auckland 3×3 Champions: Back-to-back Auckland Regional titles for our Premier Girls.
• National 3×3 Championship: Earned 4th place in New Zealand, moving up a spot from the previous year and demonstrating the talent across our girls’ program.

Key Information & Requirements

Participation Fees

To cover College Sport entry, Harbour Basketball affiliation, equipment, and administration, a participation fee is charged directly to each student’s Parent Portal.

Uniform & Safety Requirements

• Uniform: Official Kukri basketball singlet and Kukri PE shorts.
• Safety: Mouthguards are mandatory for all training sessions and games.
• Purchase: All gear is available through the Rangitoto College Uniform Shop.

All Rangitoto College basketball teams train onsite in one of our three school gyms (Gyms 1, 2, or 3), ensuring consistency and accessibility for all players.

As a member of the Harbour Basketball competition, most of our games are played off-site at various venues across the region. These typically include Eventfinda Stadium (EFS), AUT Northcote, Massey University, YMCA Northcote, Westlake Boys High School, Rosmini College and SWISH Factory.

Please note:
Students are expected to manage their own transport arrangements for all basketball activities. For 4.00pm weekday games, students are granted permission to leave school at 3.00pm to ensure they have adequate time to travel, warm up, and prepare for their match.

All basketball players, outside of our Premier teams, are required to purchase a Kukri singlet and a pair of Kukri shorts from the Uniform Shop.

Playing Singlet: $65.00

PE Shorts: $45.00 or $60.00 for spanks

Mouth guards $8.00 are compulsory under Harbour Basketball rules.
