Our English Extension students descended on Aotea Square yesterday to hear from Gilbert Enoka, Josh Silver, and Nikita Gill at the Auckland Writers’ Festival. This annual tradition shows our students the potential in their writing and how they can take practical steps toward becoming successful authors one day.

Our Year 12 Tourism students went to Auckland Zoo to learn about how a modern zoo balances tourism with animal welfare. During the talk students got to see how the Zoo has changed overtime for the animals and the visitors. They also had the opportunity to ask questions about working at the Zoo. After the talk students went on a self-guided tour while conducting research on how Auckland Zoo manages visitor expectations and accessibility. Overall, it was a great learning experience for students that they can utilise in their classwork.

Last week, our Year 13 History students took part in an overnight trip to the Waikato region to deepen their understanding of the 1863 Waikato War. The group visited several sites of historical significance, including Rangiriri and Rangiaowhia, and participated in interactive learning activities at the Te Awamutu Museum.
It was a valuable opportunity to engage with New Zealand’s history in a meaningful and immersive way.

We are incredibly proud to announce that Josh has been selected as one of only six students nationwide to represent New Zealand in the Blue Light Wales Youth Leadership Exchange.
Pictured here with Community Constable Tania Wansink, Josh’s selection is a direct result of his incredible service and leadership mahi. His dedication was on full display in 2025 when he assisted with the Blue Light BLAST programme at Murrays Bay Intermediate, proving himself to be a true role model for our rangatahi.

Our Premier Award winners, Yunxuan (Alan) Sun and current Head Boy, Joshua Wang, were both recognized as being among the top 13 students in the country for their scholarship success.
We also had three students receive Top Subject Scholarship Awards:

Our wrestling academy made history recently, taking home the trophy for Overall Best Secondary School in Auckland. We specifically want to celebrate and acknowledge Dallas Eketone-Te Kanawa for being named Auckland’s top secondary school wrestler.
This achievement stands as a testament to the technical expertise of Coach Stefan Kumerich, as well as the essential leadership of Bambam and Kate, who managed operations while Stefan represented New Zealand at the Oceania Championships a couple of weeks prior to this tournament. Stefan, a distinguished alumnus, returned from the competition with impressive hardware of his own: securing Gold in the U20 and Silver in the Open Men’s category. Well done, coach!

This weekend, our students proudly took part in the Browns Bay RSA ANZAC Day dawn service and parade. Head Students Ryen Anderson and Brody Donald addressed the dawn service gathering, followed by our Student Leaders who marched in the parade.
After a wreath was laid on behalf of the College, students gathered at Knightsbridge Residential Village to read poems and speak with the residents.
We will remember them.

It was another incredible tournament by our premier girls who played some fantastic water polo from start to finish. This team battled hard to earn their place in the NZSS final with key wins throughout the group stages.
The final was an intense game which saw the girls fight back in the last quarter to send the game into a penalty shootout. Although the end result didn’t go our way, it was a great achievement for this team and a testament to their hard work and team spirit. Special acknowledgement and congratulations to Sasha Tindall and Gemma O’Brien who were named in the tournament team. This is a fantastic and well-deserved achievement. Thank you to coaches, Chelsea and Ava, for their time and effort with this group, and to Angela O’Brien for managing the team with such care.
