Athletics has an excellent tradition at Rangitoto College. Athletics includes track and field during the summer season, along with cross country and road running predominantly in the winter.

Term 4 and Term 1
Students are expected to train for events individually. A school run club is available on a Wednesday afterschool.
Event Dates
Majority of the athletics events take place in Term 1, with Nationals being held at the end of Term 4. Cross country events take place in Term 2.
Event Venues and Transport
Venues vary depending on the event. Transport is provided for some events.

Athletes are selected to represent Rangitoto College in athletics and cross country at North Harbour Zones and Auckland events based on results achieved at school events, as well as personal results/records.

The school athletics day is held early in Term 1 and the school cross country is held in late Term 1 or early Term 2.

All year 9 and 10 students must run the school cross country. It is optional for senior students.

Students who are interested in competing at Zone, Auckland, and National level events should participate in our school events.

Some coaching is available through the school but most coaching takes place at local clubs.

Sports singlets will be loaned to students for each event. Black shorts or tights must be worn with the school singlet.
