We’d like to invite students and parents in Year 10 to 13 who are interested in becoming involved in our NZQA Scholarship Exam and Portfolio programme to our annual Scholarship Information evening on Wednesday March 11th, starting at 6:00pm in the college auditorium.
In 2025, Rangitoto College students gained 348 Scholarship passes, an increase of 24 on the previous year and, for the sixth time ever, the most of any school in the history of these NZQA exams and portfolio submissions. Presentations will be from a range of staff as well as Rangitoto Alumni, Dux & NZQA Premier Awards Scholar, Lianne Kim, who will talk about various aspects of the Scholarship programme and cover some insights into the benefits of the Scholarship examinations and how to be successful in them. This event is suited to students who are academically driven, possibly within extension and acceleration programmes and are motivated to achieve at the very top of their subject areas of interest. I nvolvement in the Scholarship examinations and portfolio submissions is generally best suited to senior students in Year 11 to 13; however, a range of the 29 subjects on offer do provide support and preparation programmes to students in Year 10. If you would like to hear more, please come along; we’d love to see you there

The Year 9 Success Integrated presentation is taking place today in period 3 in the Auditorium.
Darren Pereira, one of Oceania’s foremost educational speakers and the founding director of Success Integrated, is presenting this powerfully insightful seminar.  Last year we had a capacity crowd attend this highly successful and informative parent presentation and have felt compelled to bring Darren back to support our community.  We would encourage Year 9 parents to attend the session where Darren will cover a variety of topics which will support parenting a teenager.  You can expect to walk away with how to help your teenager:
  • develop resilience, become adaptive and deal with their current challenges
  • use evidence-based, positive psychology interventions and cognitive behavioural techniques to sustainably manage depression and deal with negative thinking
  • rectify poor sleep habits exacerbating mental health issues
  • deal with disappointment, setbacks and failure
Online registration will be available in Term 1, 2026.

Our Senior Drama Company presents a production of Lord of the Flies. Paradise Lost: When Boys Become Beasts A deserted island. A plane crash. And a chilling lesson in human nature that has haunted readers for generations. Forget the pristine beaches and the call of the wild for a group of British schoolboys stranded after a wartime evacuation. Their tropical paradise quickly devolves into a terrifying arena for survival, not against nature, but against each other. Initially, a fragile society emerges. The athletic Ralph takes the lead, guided by the intellectual Piggy and the symbolic power of a conch shell meant to maintain order. Their priority: a signal fire, a beacon of hope for rescue. But hope is a fleeting luxury when confronted by the primal instincts lurking just beneath the surface. Enter Jack; magnetic, dangerous, and obsessed with the thrill of the hunt. He quickly sways the younger boys with promises of freedom from rules and the intoxicating allure of violence. As a mythical "beast" fuels their deepest fears, the thin veneer of civilization cracks, then shatters. What unfolds is a brutal, unstoppable descent into savagery. The conch, the very symbol of their lost world, is destroyed. Innocence is murdered. And the island, once a sanctuary, becomes a fiery hunting ground where former schoolmates become predator and prey. William Golding’s Lord of the Flies is more than a story; it's a chilling mirror reflecting the darkness that lies within us all. Are we truly civilized, or just a few steps away from the jungle? The cast is made up of an all male cast and an all female cast of seniors with the exception of Anthony Chen who is in Year 10. Rehearsals are well under way and we are excited to bring this production to the stage. Shows dates: Week 9, Term 1 - Thursday 26th March at 7pm, Friday 27th March at 7pm, Saturday 28th March, Matinee at 2pm and closing show at 7pm. Ticket information will be available soon.
