Empowering students to understand and impact the world around them is a central theme of our Sociology curriculum. Recently, our Year 12 and 13 Sociology students undertook the task of attempting to influence a policy change and fundraise for issues facing Aotearoa today. As groups, students participated in our annual Sociology Expo where they raised awareness for their issues and encouraged fellow students, and staff, to get involved in their social actions.

Year 12 students raised over $2,000 for causes ranging from Rainbow Youth to Auckland City Mission. Year 13 students collected petition signatures, educated students about the legal process, and contacted specific MP’s regarding issues ranging from banning fireworks to creating more inclusive adoption laws.
