Concertos and Cookies
Almost 200 students performed to a full house of masked supporters at our annual Concertos & Cookies concert in July. Exercising caution within the Orange Traffic Light framework the 500 mouth-watering cookies (professionally baked, packaged, and labelled as always by our friends in Food Technology) were distributed at the end of the concert for families to enjoy at home. Wind Orchestra, Concert Band, Sinfonia Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra performed an exceptional programme with something to suit all ages and tastes. Wind Orchestra set the stage with a confident and polished delivery of Two Celtic Folk Songs, and the Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Berceuse and Finale from the Firebird Suite was a truly spectacular curtain closer.
A Choral Confection
This sweet evening concert was the perfect way to wrap up the year for our five choral ensembles, an opportunity to showcase repertoire to families and friends, but most of all, a celebration of being able to sing together at school. Repertoire highlights included the premiere of Whakaronga Ake Au by New Zealand composer Robert Wiremu and the Scottish folk song The Parting Glass, but it was hard to beat the audience’s obvious enjoyment of Cambiata’s rendition of the Spiderman Theme and their haunting performance of Loch Lomond. We are delighted to welcome on board Maeve Herd as assistant conductor for Massa di Voce, and alumni student Miles Timmis as the new conductor of Cambiata. Led by Luana Prictor, and supported by accompanists Summer Le Ren, Kun-Yeop Lee, and Catherine Li, our Choral Programme is in excellent hands.
