On the 19th of February 2022, four of our Year 13 International Baccalaureate (IB) students—Caitlin Hodge, Elizaveta Rasskazova, Tommy Huang and Aurora Chen—participated in the 2022 IHHB Asia & Oceania Winter League History Bowl. This is a prestigious academic competition between teams from some of the leading schools of countries in Asia and Oceania.
The day took the form of a 5-hour virtual competition with students all over the Asia region. Our students played against teams from South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and even won against another New Zealand team, after many tiebreakers.
After five rounds of heated competition, the team placed 12th overall in the Asia Regionals, qualifying for a number of international competitions, including the highly competitive 2022 International History Olympiad.
The International History Olympiad is a celebration of history attended by some of the best young History students from around the world, featuring numerous competitive and non-competitive events. Students would also be able to tour the Ivy League schools in the region, such as Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton, as well as the United Nations Headquarters to learn more about the historical venues.
This is a great achievement for our students and they should be very proud of qualifying for this and other international competitions. Fingers crossed for Covid restrictions and good luck to our students!
