This term, on Tuesday 19th May, four classes of our Year 11 sociology students went out to Donald’s Farm to work on the Papakura Stream Restoration Project. As part of their current study on social action, the students actively took part in a project by planting trees to restore health to the Papakura Stream. The students were able to get involved in this through Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ). CVNZ educated students on what native wildlife they could find in the stream, as well as how to test the water levels and what is actually in the water. They also explained how planting these trees would benefit the health of the stream as well as the wildlife that depend on it to live. In total, our 100 students and CVNZ were able to plant an impressive 1,423 native plants alongside the bank.
