A purpose‑built scholarship room in the library provides candidates with a dedicated space to work individually or alongside like‑minded peers. Students intending to study abroad are well supported with advice and guidance on entry requirements, scholarship applications, SATs, and interviews. Each year, Rangitoto College students gain acceptance into prestigious universities across the Asia‑Pacific region and further afield, including Ivy League colleges in the United States and top universities in the United Kingdom.
We provide an extensive framework that inspires students to embrace the very best opportunities the future has to offer, preparing them to become active shapers of the world rather than passive consumers.
Our core junior programme includes English, Mathematics, Science, Junior Social Science, Digital Technology, one of four Languages (Māori, Japanese, Mandarin, or Spanish), Health, Music, and Physical Education. In addition, students choose three further options from a diverse range that includes Visual Art, Dance, Drama, Business and Economics, Electronics, Textile Technology and Food Technology, Design and Visual Communication, Materials Technology, and Performance Music.
In Year 10, students begin to explore specialised subjects that reflect their individual interests and strengths. In the senior years, the College offers the widest possible combination of study choices, with more than seventy subjects available at Year 12 and an unparalleled twenty‑six Scholarship subjects at Year 13. With such breadth — from Art History and Business Studies to Classics, Electronics, and Sociology — every student’s interests are catered for.
All students are challenged to pursue their diverse ambitions and achieve their personal best. To support this, extensive data is collected from contributing schools and supplemented by further testing, enabling us to track and respond to the academic well‑being of each student.
Through effective teaching practice, we aim to strengthen the literacy of all students, enhancing their ability to use and understand the language forms essential for successful communication in society. To support their learning, students are required to bring a computer device.
