Athletics Day was held recently for competitive athletes. Some students only entered their specialist event, whereas others were keen to give a new sports activity a whirl. The most enthusiastic group were the Year 9 boys, many of whom had a go at all of the events on offer (possibly to get a day off school!). The most popular event turned out to be the long jump with over 60 competitors across all age groups.

The crowd favourite was the boys’ high jump where a range of techniques were on show. The highest jump was an impressive forward somersault over 1.8m, however, the highest legal jump was 1.55m.

There were many familiar names who stood out with solid performances and personal bests as well as a few Year 9s who will be ones to watch in the future.

The athletes were all trying to qualify in their events for the North Harbour Zone Champs which are due to be held in a few weeks with a changed format due to current restrictions.
