Rangitoto College continues to construct a thriving basketball culture built on inclusivity, development, and excellence. In 2025, we are proud to field 41 teams, with over 400 students involved—making basketball one of the largest and most dynamic sports at our school.
Our programme caters to a wide range of players, from those looking for a fun and social experience to high-performance athletes aspiring to compete at the highest level. There is a place for everyone in our basketball whānau.
We are excited to welcome back Mike Robinson for his second year as Director of Basketball. With a student-athlete-focused approach, Mike is passionate about developing a vibrant, connected basketball community at Rangitoto College. His vision is to not only enhance athlete performance and development but also to strengthen the culture, relationships, and support systems that surround our programme. 2024 marked the beginning of a bold new chapter, and under Mike’s leadership, our basketball programme is poised for continued growth and success.
Our Premier Boys and Girls teams are led by two outstanding coaches: Nathan Hanna, who guided the boys to the 2024 Senior Competition Grand Final, and Brooke Blair, who made history by leading the girls to the 2024 AA Secondary School Nationals Championships—a long-awaited achievement for our girls’ programme. Both Premier teams compete in the Auckland Secondary Schools competition, while all other teams compete and participate in the Harbour Basketball competition.
In a further highlight, our girls’ team won the Auckland 3×3 Basketball Championship this year, going on to place 5th at Nationals—a remarkable result that reflects the strength and growth of girls’ basketball at Rangitoto College.
To support the costs associated with College Sport registration, Harbour Basketball affiliation, equipment, and programme administration, a participation fee will be added to each student’s school parent portal.
Basketball uniforms, including Kukri singlets and Kukri PE shorts, as well as mouthguards, can be purchased through the Rangitoto College Uniform Shop.
We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to working closely with our athletes, whānau, and wider basketball community to achieve continued success—on and off the court.
