Rangitoto College recently hosted its annual Sports Awards Evening, a night dedicated to acknowledging the outstanding achievements and fierce dedication of its student athletes across all sporting codes.
The evening served as a celebration of the tireless practice, competitive spirit, and athletic finesse demonstrated by students throughout the year. The College takes immense pride in its successful sports programme, which is underpinned by the commitment and dedication of every student involved.
The most anticipated awards of the night, Sportswoman of the Year and Sportsman of the Year, went to two exceptional sailing talents: Chloe Turner and Joe Leith.
Both students were recognised for their outstanding commitment to their sport, which included significant international participation and success. Their achievements are a true testament to their hard work and dedication both on and off the water.
Badminton continues to impress, with our Premier Girls taking the Team of the Year award. The girls’ success at the New Zealand Secondary Schools championships was flawless; the team never lost a point throughout the entire tournament, winning every single game.
The Most Outstanding Sporting Moment went to the Premier Boys Water Polo team. After three must-win games, they found themselves in the final against Westlake Boys. It was a tight match with many lead changes, leaving our boys down in the final seconds. Cole Saunders stepped up to score the equalizer, sending the match to a penalty shootout where the boys secured a dramatic victory.
Congratulations to all our nominees and winners. It has been a wonderful year of sport and we commend you all.
A big well done is also extended to all award recipients of the evening. Their hard work, talent, and commitment to their respective sports are invaluable to the College community and do not go unnoticed. The future of Rangitoto College sports is bright, thanks to the continuous effort and spirit of its athletes.
