The AT HOP card is a reusable prepay smart card for travel on buses, trains, and ferries across Auckland. Students can load a Child or Secondary Student concession onto their card to receive discounted fares.

However, Auckland Transport has found that many primary, intermediate, and secondary students are still paying cash for public transport, meaning they miss out on the discounts available through AT Metro. In addition, some students are using an AT HOP card without the correct concession loaded, so they are not receiving the travel savings they are entitled to.
