Rangitoto College recognises the vital role sport plays in the health, wellbeing, and personal growth of our students. We encourage every learner to take part in the extensive range of sporting opportunities available throughout their time at the College. Our goal is to foster a lifelong passion for sport and physical activity that helps students thrive and excel in all areas of life.
Unrivalled Opportunities
With one of the largest student populations in New Zealand, Rangitoto offers teams in more than 30 different sports. Our premier codes include badminton, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rugby, table tennis, volleyball, and water polo.
Beyond these, students can explore a wide variety of other sports such as athletics, beach volleyball, cycling, mountain biking, swimming, squash, tennis, fencing, triathlon, weightlifting, golf, snow sports, cheerleading, sailing, surfing, and more. This breadth reflects the evolving and diverse sporting landscape of New Zealand.
A Community of Excellence
Our Sport Department is led by a highly qualified and dedicated team of professionals, supported by passionate teachers, student coaches, parents, community mentors, and professional coaches. Together, they create a world‑class sporting environment where participation, enjoyment, and achievement are equally valued.
Participation and Performance
We aim for every student to be involved in at least one organised sport each year, with flexible opportunities that fit alongside study and wider commitments. At the same time, we proudly foster elite performance. Rangitoto has a rich sporting history, with students achieving national honours while at school and alumni representing New Zealand at World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and the Olympic Games.
Pathways Beyond School
Our strong guidance and support pathways have enabled many students to secure USA university sports scholarships upon graduation. These opportunities are a testament to the dedication of our coaches, teachers, and the wider Rangitoto sporting community.
