Rangitoto College Enrolment Planning – 2025

With planning for the next new cohort of 2025 Year 9 students joining Rangitoto College underway, we find ourselves in a new position whereby we will have to restrict entry to the College at a different threshold to previous years.

For 2025, Rangitoto College will accept enrolment applications in Priority 2, 3, 4 and 5 at Year 9 only. (A full description of the enrolment categories is given below). We will not be taking any out of zone enrolment applications for Years 10-12 and will hold a ballot for Categories 2-6 for Year 13. It is our hope that all Year 9 current siblings (Priority 2) will have an enrolment place in 2025, however, we need to make it clear that it is highly unlikely that we will be able to take any Priority 3-5 enrolments in Year 9.

The ballot that will close on Wednesday the 4th of September and be drawn on Wednesday 11th September 2024. The number of places in any potential ballot will be determined at that time, once we have a firmer indication of in-zone enrolments.

With a current school population of 3775 students, Rangitoto College is the largest any school in New Zealand has ever been (excepting Te Kura, The Correspondence School) and classroom space is very tight. The success of the College, aligned with the huge amount of infill housing and rapid rise in immigration, has driven in zone demand up, and we are currently only provided classroom space for 2300 students by the Ministry of Education and rely on locally raised Board funds from international revenue to house out of zone and international students. We are working with the MOE to remediate existing prefabs to enable us to accommodate our 2025 roll. Over the course of the next five years, it is our intention to bring the school roll back under 3500 as we manage the logistical challenges of the changing local population patterns.

Out of Zone Ballot Priorities

Priority 1: must be given to any applicant who is accepted for enrolment in a special programme run by the school (this priority does not apply to Rangitoto College).

Priority 2: must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student at the school. (Y9 & 13 Applications accepted for 2025)

Priority 3: must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a former student of the school. (Y9 & 13 Applications accepted for 2025)

Priority 4: must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school. (Y9 & 13 Applications accepted for 2025)

Priority 5: must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the Board of the school or a child of a member of the Board of the school. (Year 9 & 13 Applications accepted for 2025)

Priority 6: must be given to all other applicants. (Applications accepted for Year 13 ONLY in 2025)
