At the end of Term 1, our Premier Boys and Girls water polo teams competed in the College Sport Auckland Premier Water Polo League. Throughout this league, both teams had some excellent wins and hard-fought losses. At the end of the competition, both teams made the finals, with our girls narrowly losing to Diocesan and our boys beating Sacred Heart and retaining their title of Auckland Champions which they gained in 2021.

Both teams then went on to play at the North Island Secondary Schools tournament held in Auckland. This served as a perfect lead-up to the National Champs with both teams placing third at this tournament.

The highlight of the season is the Nationals tournament which was held in Wellington. Facing the very best opposition across the country in a gruelling and highly competitive tournament, both teams achieved gold. A truly remarkable and outstanding achievement for Rangitoto College with our girls defeating the long-time unbeaten Diocesan, and our boys defeating Hamilton Boys. Double national champions in an afternoon is an achievement that will remain deeply embedded into Rangitoto’s sporting history. Special congratulations also go to Rangitoto players Darcy Spark and Luke Blackburn who were named MVPs of the tournament.

A huge thank you to coach Chelsea Geary (Rangitoto Alumni) and manager Melissa Spark of the girls’ team and coach Nemo Radjen, assistant coach Jake Lockwood (Rangitoto Alumni), and manager Megan Brown of the boys’ team, for their deep commitment and dedication to our players and for guiding them to this outstanding achievement.
