When we talk about international students, the conversation often focuses on their gains – improving their English, experiencing a new country, and achieving university entrance.

But this perspective overlooks the other half of the story: what they bring, and what we learn from them.

The presence of international students transforms classrooms and neighbourhoods, as their contributions enrich the school community and shape the future of cross-cultural education.

Daily interactions help break down stereotypes and teach local students a powerful truth: despite differences in language, background or appearance, teenagers everywhere share the same core experiences and challenges.

This everyday exposure gives all students a valuable opportunity to build empathy, expand their worldviews, and foster lifelong connections that cross borders.

At Rangitoto College, we are incredibly fortunate to have passionate staff and wonderful host families who play a vital role in supporting these young people. Together, they help our students navigate the natural highs and lows of living and studying abroad.

Leaving behind family and friends takes immense courage. We are proud of our international students and privileged to be a chapter in their success stories.
