Our Community Garden continues to have well-attended morning sessions for watering and weeding. Crops like butternut squash, kamokamo, and pumpkins are enjoying an extended productive season into autumn. Abundant bushes of basil, mint, and thyme made working in the garden a fragrant delight for our young gardeners, who spent one lunchtime surface mulching generously donated pea straw across all the raised beds. This straw is gratefully received, as it improves moisture retention and adds extra organic matter for soil enrichment.
Moving into autumn, we have planted more winter crops such as broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower. Our maintenance sessions will move to lunchtimes starting in Term 2.
We are thankful for our many helpers and leaders who are committed to supporting our wider community with garden produce.
