The AI Innovation Centre recently hosted its first Youth AI Innovation Expo & Forum, featuring 15 outstanding student-led original projects. These innovations addressed real-world needs across diverse fields, including crop disease detection for smart agriculture, flood image monitoring and Q&A systems, a biomimetic jellyfish model, Smart GP solutions, intelligent court systems, automated skin and breast cancer image segmentation and diagnosis, beef freshness detection, and more.
Many of the showcased projects had undergone peer review and were published in international academic conferences or journals. Students also developed interactive website Apps and produced professional research posters to communicate their work with clarity and impact.
During the event, Youran (Yolanda) Zhang and Maria (Vicky) Fernandez Ormaechea delivered keynote presentations sharing the inspiration behind their innovations, and a panel discussion highlighted the voices and perspectives of young innovators. At the award ceremony, the Minister of Education, Erica Stanford and Member of Parliament, Nancy Lu, attended in person to recognise and celebrate the students’ achievements. The event concluded with lively conversations and meaningful engagement as guests explored the exhibits and interacted with the student teams.
