NZSS Athletics Championships in the mighty Hawke’s Bay. This highly competitive national event brought together the top secondary school athletes from across the country, making the achievements of our team all the more significant.
The entire coaching staff and school community were immensely proud of the tremendous commitment and grit displayed by every single athlete. Whether setting a new personal best, supporting a teammate, or battling through multiple rounds, the positive attitude and dedication of the Rangitoto contingent were outstanding.
A particular highlight of the championship was the phenomenal performance of our Senior Girls 4x100m Relay team. This powerhouse quartet—comprising Amy Hurly, Kenzie Bowden, Lace Patuki, and Emma Young—executed a series of flawless baton changes and delivered blistering speed down the straight. Their exceptional teamwork and synchronisation saw them sprint their way to a fantastic silver medal in a fiercely contested final, marking a major success for the squad.
The medal haul didn’t stop there. We also extend a massive celebration to Rangitoto alumnus, Zhan Bowden, who returned to the NZSS stage to compete in the prestigious Senior Boys events. Displaying the explosive power and technical precision he honed during his years at the school, Zhan utterly dominated the Senior Boys Triple Jump competition. His remarkable leaps not only secured him the gold medal but also earned him a coveted spot on the official tournament team, recognising him as one of the standout athletes of the entire championships.
The 2026 NZSS Athletics Championships proved to be a highly successful campaign, providing our athletes with invaluable experience and adding significant silverware to the school’s trophy cabinet. The efforts and sportsmanship of the entire team truly embodied the Rangitoto spirit.
