In addition to our broad sports programme, Rangitoto College has established the Sport Performance Academy (S.P.A.) to support developing athletes who demonstrate the potential to become elite competitors during their time at the college.
The academy is designed to enhance the capabilities of high-achieving junior athletes, preparing them for premier and high-level secondary school sports competitions. Selected students in Years 9 and 10 will participate in a programme tailored to their primary sport or areas of interest.
Selection is based on prior sports performance history provided in the application—no trials are held. Applicants should demonstrate both the aspiration and ability to make a junior premier or A team in their chosen sport. While participation in S.P.A. does not guarantee selection into top teams, we are confident that students will graduate from the programme as more skilled, confident, and capable athletes.
Students who are not initially selected will be placed on a waiting list.
Each year, the Sport Performance Academy accommodates approximately 150 Year 9 and 10 students across a range of sporting codes. The programme provides time and space for athletes to refine existing skills, develop new techniques and game strategies, and learn collaboratively in an environment that fosters growth and confidence.
The SPA timetable will be published before the end of Term 4 and made available on our website.
