The Einstein Olympiad, now in its sixth year, successfully brought together students from across our community to celebrate a shared love of academia.
One hundred and forty Year 9 and 10 students from Rangitoto College and the Mid Bays Kahui Ako schools competed in a range of exciting, challenging activities on Friday, November 28th.
The activities were meticulously designed to test the students’ general knowledge, their capacity for logical and critical thinking, and their collaborative problem-solving skills. A unique aspect of the day was the team structure: students were deliberately placed into mixed teams that included participants from the primary, intermediate, and high school levels, fostering mentorship and connection.
The day’s competition began with a Countdown Challenge and engaging team-building activities. These foundational tasks were followed by the highly anticipated Ultimate Quiz, which tested the students’ comprehensive knowledge across core school subjects, symbolic recognition, riddles, and general trivia.
The grand finale was an Amazing Race across the school grounds. Students navigated a series of interdisciplinary challenges, including:
- Science: Guessing the flame colours of various substances in the Science block.
- Media: Identifying different movie genres in the Media Suite.
- Mathematics: Applying estimation skills to calculate the area of the hockey turf.
- Music: Demonstrating musical talents by identifying the distinct sounds of different instruments.
The event was a resoundingly successful day of learning, active participation, and building positive cross-school relationships. The Einstein Olympiad continues to be a vibrant platform for showcasing the academic talent and collaborative spirit within our community.
