Rangitoto College’s Premier Sailing Team has enjoyed another outstanding year both on the water as a team and through some exceptional individual results.

The standout highlight was Chloe Turner being crowned U17 Youth Women’s World Champion in the ILCA 6 class at the World Championships in Los Angeles. Chloe also claimed Gold at the National Youth Championships and several regional titles, confirming her place among the very best young sailors globally.

Other international successes included Joe Leith winning the Top International Team award at the 29er European Championships in Italy, while Arran Begic, at only 15 years old, impressed with an 11th-place finish in the U17 ILCA 6 World Championship.

As a team, Rangitoto retained their title at the North of the Bridge Regatta and went on to finish a strong 5th overall at the National Secondary Schools Team Racing Championships, competing against the country’s top schools.

Across regional, national, and international regattas, Rangitoto sailors collected an impressive number of podium finishes, with standout performances from Sofia Turner, Jess Bettany, Tehya Harris, and Will Fyfe across multiple classes.

A special thank you to Mr (Brownz) Tagaloa and Rangitoto College for their continued support of our Premier Sailing Team. Most importantly, we wish to acknowledge and honour alumni Scott Leith, who has dedicated over a decade of service to our school’s sailing programme. Scott, your selfless commitment to our rangatahi, giving your time, energy, and often family time, has been nothing short of extraordinary. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to your wife Sandra and children Lucy and Joe for the way you have all represented our kura with such mana and pride. Your contribution has left a lasting legacy.

Thank you!
