At Rangitoto College, there’s a place for everyone—whether you’re just starting out or aiming for high‑level competition. Our Open competitions for both juniors and seniors are perfect for those new to debating or looking for a more relaxed way to develop their speaking skills. For students seeking a greater challenge, the Premier Junior and Premier Advanced teams compete in events such as the East Coast Bays Annual Rotary Debate, with some students even progressing to the New Zealand Schools’ Competition.

Debating is not only about competition—it’s about learning to think critically, speak persuasively, and collaborate as part of a team. Join us to build your confidence, challenge your thinking, and take your voice to the next level.

The criteria towards this being added onto your student profile is

• being a member of a debating team
• attend more than 50% of team meetings
• participate in at least one interschool debate.

In order to have your activity added to your profile in time to be recognised at prizegiving, please ensure it is added by:

• Year 9, 10 and 11: 20 November 2026
• Year 12 and 13: 24 September 2026
