Junior Volleyball

Our junior volleyball programme took part in both the Auckland Champs and the Junior North Island Secondary Schools (NISS) Champs in November, experiencing intense competition across both tournaments.

Auckland Champs: Our Junior Premier Girls and Boys teams played some fantastic Volleyball against highly skilled teams from all over the North Island. Both teams successfully battled their way into the Top 8 and loved every minute of being on the court. A big congratulations to both Evie Meyer and Jayden Kim for being named in the Tournament Teams for this event.

NISS Junior Championships The following week was another full-on week of Volleyball with early starts and late finishes, which our teams managed incredibly well. Additionally, our Junior B Girls rose to the challenge, competing strongly in Division 3. Our two Junior Premier teams placed in the top 8 again, which was a consistent and great result.

It’s been a busy few weeks, but seeing the improvement and camaraderie across all three teams makes it all worth it.

Junior Water Polo

Our junior teams recently completed an outstanding North Island Y9/10 Cup campaign while also wrapping up their Auckland League seasons with strong final results, highlighted by the Junior A Girls securing a well-earned League silver medal. At the North Island tournament, the girls delivered an impressive undefeated run through their pool and crossover stages, showing strikingly dominant form before securing a Division 1 bronze medal.

The Junior A Boys also put together a remarkable Cup campaign, notching several commanding wins and finishing second in their pool. They fell just short in a tight, hard-fought semifinal—showcasing their resilience and teamwork against Sacred Heart, the eventual winners—before claiming fourth place in Division 1.  Our Junior B Boys also contended fiercely to claim fourth place in Division 2.

We extend a huge thank you to coaches Rob, Sasha, Shannon, Tom, Finn and Arnold, as well as team managers James, Kati and Karen, for their dedication and support in guiding our athletes through what has been a long but successful season. Special mention goes to Connor Turver, who was named MVP at North Islands, and Rose Tindall and Vitor Filippo for being named in their respective tournament teams.

Russell Glackin Cricket

Rangitoto College proudly hosted this year’s Russell Glackin Cricket Tournament, an annual quadrangular competition between Rangitoto, Rosmini, Westlake Boys, and Whangarei Boys. The event gave many players the exciting opportunity to compete on a grass wicket for the first time.

Day 1 delivered an evenly matched contest across the board, with every team finishing the day on one win and one loss, creating a thrilling scenario where the Day 2 morning matches effectively became semifinals. Our Rangitoto team produced an impressive victory over Rosmini on Day 1, and later met them again in the 3rd/4th playoff, where Rosmini came out on top. Whangarei were ultimately crowned tournament winners after an incredibly close final against Westlake Boys.

The tournament was filled with growth, development, and plenty of enjoyment for all involved, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make it a success. Special thanks to umpires Ben Childs, Ben Chapman and Scott Bridgens, as well as Oliver Spencer, Liam Turner and James Reynolds for their valuable support in coaching and scoring for our Rangitoto team.
