I recently travelled to China and Greece for two international economics competitions, where we sat through exams on microeconomics, macroeconomics, financial literacy, and more.

It was an immensely fruitful experience, meeting awesome people from countries like Kazakhstan and the US, watching the World Cup Final at 3am in the morning, and being able to soak up some good sun.

I ended up medalling silver in both competitions, the first time in New Zealand history, and as a country we managed to place 6th overall.

Anna Armitage

Recently, Anna represented New Zealand at the International Geography Olympiad in Istanbul, Türkiye. She was selected as one of a four-member team after winning gold at the NZ national competition. Competing against 180 high school students from 50 nations, Anna achieved a Gold Medal, placing in the top 16 worldwide and earning the distinction of top geography student in Oceania. She is only the second New Zealand student in history to win Gold at the International Geography Olympiad.

Anna placed 14th in the Written Examination and 2nd in the Fieldwork section. Alongside the competition, she explored Istanbul’s rich history, with a particularly moving highlight being the team’s trip to Gallipoli.
