Music Competitions

Eight Rangitoto bands took part in the North Shore Heats of the Smokefree Rockquest Band competition in May, with Year 9 band – Anesthesia – being selected as one of the Top 12 acts to go through to the Regional Final. 12 ensembles from our Chamber Programme graced the stage at the very impressive Diocesan School Performing Arts Centre in the NZCT Chamber Music Contest, and mid-June saw our three choirs take to the Auckland Town Hall stage for the Big Sing Choral Festival (at the time of writing we are awaiting the results from this event).

Music Events

Rock & Rocky Road

Our annual rock showcase is a raging success year after year – with a tried-and-true recipe that’s guaranteed to be a crowd favourite! Start with a darkened auditorium, add café-style seating, two stages, dramatic lighting, stage smoke, and a spark machine. Mix in epic sets from 9 rock bands and 7 duos, a hugely talented and dedicated tech crew, and 4 very entertaining hosts. Serve with generous slabs of rocky road to a very appreciative audience.

Jazz Happy Hour & Jazz Club

Our 4th annual Happy Hour and 11th annual Jazz Club played to full audiences in our stylish jazz café setting – featuring 4 big bands, 6 jazz combos, and a staff ensemble. With their loyal following, these events remain highlights of the Performing Arts calendar.

Music at Knightsbridge Village

Ensembles in our Chamber Programme presented two Sunday afternoons of beautiful music at Knightsbridge Village, with three choirs visiting one Thursday afternoon to air their Big Sing repertoire. As always, there was a great turn out from the village residents, with plenty of parents and siblings of performers in the audience too.

June showcases

On Monday 15 June our co-curricular choral ensembles and our Year 9 Vocal class presented their annual showcase – A Choral Confection. On Sunday 21 June our co-curricular orchestral and concert band ensembles presented their annual Concerto & Cookies showcase. Photos will be included in the next edition.
