Our helpers and leaders teamed up on garden maintenance and planting seedlings to sustain provisioning our local food bank with freshly grown produce. Gardening Workshops at lunchtime on Thursdays are an exciting development and each lesson counts towards the Garden Society on student profiles. This is a new initiative led by Kevin Kang and started on 21 May. This offers hands on lessons with our leaders which cover:
- The 5 basics of plant survival
- Seed starting and germination
- How to pot plants: potting mixes and containers
- Watering and troubleshooting
- Basic propagation
- Growing plants at home in NZ conditions.
Joining a workshop is an easy google form entry on our Community Garden Classroom and this student-led innovation has proven popular with keen gardeners attending regularly. Thanks to Kevin and the leadership team for their dedication and drive to build everyone’s gardening skills by also adapting lessons to suit the knowledge level of each group of attendees.
