As part of our CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) programme for the IB Diploma, we spent the day exploring different ways to express ourselves creatively in the annual Creativity Day. From filmmaking to crocheting, nail art to baking, students had the chance to step out of their usual routines and try something completely new.
A group of us spent the day cooking together, where we created an entire 4 course meal from scratch. We started by splitting into teams and prepping two of the dishes: crispy smashed potatoes with rosemary and handmade brown butter sage gnocchi. The smashed potatoes came out golden and crispy, and the rosemary gave them a rich, herby flavor. The gnocchi took some serious teamwork, as we rolled, shaped, and boiled each piece by hand before pan frying it in a delicious brown butter and sage sauce. After those were done cooking, we worked on creamy tomato pasta, a comforting classic that turned out delicious. It was rich, tangy and satisfying, especially after all the energy we put into it. And of course, we couldn’t forget dessert. For the grand finale, we made eclairs filled with whipped cream and topped with glossy chocolate glaze. We were really proud of how they turned out.
Cooking together made us feel connected in a different way than usual school projects. We weren’t just following instructions. We were making decisions, solving problems, helping each other and creating something we could all enjoy. It was a perfect example of creativity in action. Even though not everything went perfectly, we learned a lot and had fun doing it. Around the school, other students were getting just as creative. Some people were making short films, writing scripts and editing scenes. Others were working on knitting or crocheting projects. A few students tried their hand at nail art, painting tiny, detailed designs on each other’s nails. Every corner of the school had something different going on, and it was amazing to see how many kinds of creativity people brought to life.
Creativity Day reminded us that being creative isn’t just about being artistic. It’s about trying new things, thinking in new ways, and challenging ourselves outside the usual subjects. Whether we were chopping herbs, filming scenes or threading yarn, we were all building skills that matter—not just for IB, but for life. By the end of the day, the halls smelled like rosemary and chocolate. People were presenting their nail designs and film clips, and we all left with a sense of accomplishment. CAS Creativity Day gave us the chance to explore new parts of ourselves, and made us more connected.
