The IT Assist Club offers students the opportunity to work with residents from the Knightsbridge Retirement Village, helping to develop a deeper understanding of modern technology. So far this year, we’ve had the opportunity to provide one hands-on help session, where students assisted the elderly in resolving any device-related issues, and two presentation sessions. Our most recent presentation was on the use of Artificial Intelligence, which was one of the most requested topics from the residents of Knightsbridge.
Artificial Intelligence is a relatively new and rapidly evolving tool depicted as both useful and terrifying. For the older generation, the thought of Artificial Intelligence can be extremely daunting, not to mention confusing. The IT Assist Club’s session with the Knightsbridge residents included an introduction to Artificial Intelligence; how to work with Siri, Bixby, Alexa, Google’s Gemini, online shopping bots and ChatGPT. This presentation allowed us to introduce what we consider to be a significant aspect of our world to the attendees at the presentation.
“… . the students’ clear explanations demystified these tools, making AI more approachable for everyone in attendance …” Michael Gifford, Knightsbridge (with the help of ChatGPT)
