Embarking on the journey of language learning is both challenging and rewarding. It requires perseverance and resilience, but the benefits are profound. Learning a new language enhances cognitive abilities, fosters cultural understanding, and opens doors to global opportunities. At our school, we are committed to offering opportunities that celebrate achievements at all language proficiency levels, encouraging every student to pursue their language learning journey with confidence and enthusiasm.

This term, we became the first school in New Zealand to host both the Preliminary and National Rounds of the Hippo 2025 English Without Borders competition. This competition is specifically for bilingual and multilingual students, and encourages students of all English proficiency levels to participate. These rounds assessed participants in reading, writing, and use of English, aligning with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) standards. Our students competed against over 88,000 peers from 67 countries worldwide, showcasing their dedication and skill.

We are thrilled to announce that Terisa Asoau qualified for the Regional Qualifiers in Vietnam and will be travelling there later this month, and Xinru Chen advanced to the World Finals in Italy, later this year. Their achievements are a testament to their hard work and the valuable learning experiences gained through studying English in the ESOL department.

We are immensely proud of their accomplishments!
