This term, the Arts Committee was honoured to bring Arts Week back to Rangitoto College from 1st to 5th August,

We kicked off Arts Week at Monday interval with a brilliant bagpipe performance from talented Year 10 student Callum Keer-Keer, followed by Jazz Combo performances at lunch.

Tuesday was dedicated to celebrating our visual artists at the college. A large crowd of eager students gathered in the Sound Garden to participate in our Chalk Art event.

On Wednesday, the Arts Committee celebrated the literary arts through the school’s inaugural Book Day (a non-uniform literature dress-up day) where students were encouraged to dress up as their favourite book characters, bringing in books or donations for Variety, the Children’s Charity. This was a huge success and we raised over $2,000 and gathered over 250 books for children in need.

Following this success, on Thursday the Arts Committee held the biggest event of the week, attracting the largest school event turnout in two years for Rangi’s Got Talent. Our annual talent competition showcased various acts, from rapping, to dance and singing. The Arts Committee was very fortunate to have alumni Brody Glanfield return as a member of our judging panel, awarding the first place prize to Year 11 rock band The Birds, second place prize to Year 11 dancer Melody Ullrich, and third place to Year 13 singer-songwriter Patrycja Piasta!

Finally, to close Arts Week, on Friday the committee held a lunchtime dance event, where students could participate in Just Dance in the auditorium. Again, the committee was really impressed with the turnout, and thanks all students and staff for their amazing support.
