BACKThe final event of the year for our swim team was the New Zealand Secondary Schools (NZSS) Swimming Championships, where we looked to defend our top co-ed title. Over the four-day event, we had some outstanding performances, bringing home a total of 22 medals. In both individual and relay events our team shone, earning 14 gold, three silver, and five bronze medals, which saw us claim the Top Co-Ed title for the seventh consecutive year. Our individual medallists included Elwin Bao, Ya (Amy) Tian, India Vaughan, Grayson Coulter, Amber Lin, Elvin Wang, and Henry Wang. In his 50m freestyle event, Grayson Coulter broke the NZ 14 yrs record in one of the final races of the competition, bringing a fantastic close to the event for the team. We want to thank our two Year 13 swimmers, Elwin Bao and Riley Hurbuns, for the service and dedication they have shown the team over the last five years.
Outside of school competitions, it is also important to acknowledge five of our students who were selected for NZ programmes this year. Congratulations to Sean Burke, who competed at the Oceania Swimming Championships in Fiji, and Grayson Coulter, who competed at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Canada. Elwin Bao was named to the National Development Squad, while Hayley Wyatt, Amber Lin, and Grayson Coulter were named to the National Age Group squad.
