BACKThis year, we have introduced a new design subject at Year 10: Innovative Digital Design (IDD). IDD is a digitally focused reimagining of the Design and Visual Communication (DVC) curriculum, bringing modern digital software and prototype creation to the DVC design process.
Throughout the course, students learn to navigate professional 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools like Shapr3D and SketchUp, alongside 2D vector programmes such as Focus2D and TechSoft. Students’ digital concepts are brought to life through hands-on prototypes and models created using laser cutters, 3D printers, and print displays.
Project highlights so far in 2026:
- Destination Dioramas: Intricate, laser-cut plywood flatpack souvenir models representing iconic international holiday destinations.
- Pet-tecture: Multifunctional spatial structures blending architecture with pet care, presented through final visual poster displays.
IDD prepares students for the rapidly evolving design and technology landscape. It serves as a valuable stepping stone for senior DVC, Technology scholarship opportunities, and tertiary design pathways such as Architecture, Urban Planning, and Product Design.
Notes for future course selection:
- IDD is available exclusively in Year 10.
- Year 10 students can take both IDD and DVC concurrently.
