Sports

Rangitoto College has a proud sporting history which features numerous students who have become national champions and have triumphed for New Zealand competing at the highest levels as world champion.

The College provides over 40 different sports. Students are encouraged to participate in sport throughout their time at the College. With an extensive range of sports on offer and with a focus on long-term healthy lifestyle choices, students are pushed to unlock their potential and expand their talents.

Student participation is an important aspect of College life. Everyone is encouraged to participate in competitive as well as participatory sport.  The new house system has been designed to maximise participation and incorporates such events as Athletics, Swimming Sports Day and Cross Country.

Experience
I am a New Zealand National Track and Field selector and is the Advisory Panel Consultant to the High Performance Programme for Endurance Athletes and Coaches. I have represented NZ in the 1984 Olympic Games and placed 9th in the 1500 metre final. I have been a NZ Team Manager and Coach and have been active in regional sports in a number of roles. My knowledge of sport is not restricted to track and field; having been involved in football, rugby, tennis, cricket, rowing and hockey.
Personal Statement
I have a vast experience in management structures, strategic planning and leadership to take organisations forward both in the education and sporting environments including to the highest level of consultative planning through working on the International Athletes Commission. When it comes to setting sports pathways for young people, I have a huge appreciation of the physical, psychological and emotional skills that youth in particular develop through sport and how sport can be used as a strong hook for continued learning and motivational direction.
