Rangitoto College is proud of its long partnership with the NZ Blood Service, hosting a two‑day annual blood collection on campus.
Every week, New Zealand hospitals require more than 3,000 units of blood. By donating here at Rangitoto, our students and staff make a valuable contribution that not only saves lives but also builds awareness of the importance of blood donation—encouraging students to become lifelong donors.
Student Leadership and Involvement
This event is student‑driven, with leadership committees playing a vital role in its success. Students:
- Visit every Year 12 and 13 tutor class and present at assemblies to encourage sign‑ups via the Blood Service app
- Provide refreshments and support for donors throughout the day
- Capture the highlights through school photography for publications and promotion
The Impact
Each year, Rangitoto College collects over 200 units of blood—that’s more than 94 litres, with the potential to save up to 600 lives.
By getting involved, you’re not just helping to run an event—you’re helping to save lives and inspire a culture of giving back.
For Year 9 and Year 10 students’ service to be added onto their student profile they need to volunteer their time promoting blood day before and during the event – approximately 3 hours service.
Students who participate from other year groups will have the activity added onto their student profile.
In order to have your activity added to your profile in time to be recognised at prizegiving, please ensure it is added by:
- Year 9 and Year 10: 21 November 2025
- Year 11: 19 November 2025
- Year 12 and Year 13: 18 September 2025
Please check that your profile data is being updated regularly throughout the year.
