Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is more than just a requirement of the IB Diploma Programme—it is an opportunity for students to grow beyond the classroom. To kick off Term 1, our Year 12 cohort shifted their focus to the “Active” element of the framework with an immersive trip to the Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre (MERC) at Long Bay.

The excursion was designed to push students out of their comfort zones through a variety of high-energy land and water-based challenges. Whether navigating the waves or tackling shore-side tasks, the day was about much more than just physical exercise.

The activities served as a practical classroom for developing essential life skills, including:

  • Leadership & Teamwork: Collaborating to solve complex physical puzzles.

  • Effective Communication: Learning to give and receive clear instructions under pressure.

  • Resilience: Overcoming personal hesitations in unfamiliar environments.

  • Water Safety: Gaining vital survival skills for the unique New Zealand coastline.

By the end of the day, our students returned with more than just salty hair and tired muscles; they gained a renewed sense of confidence and a stronger bond with their peers. This hands-on experience sets a powerful tone for their CAS journey ahead.
