Our tennis players delivered a spectacular series of performances at the 2026 College Sport Auckland Champ of Champions Tournament. Competing against the top players in the region over three days, our athletes pulled off some fantastic wins and upsets to make their way to finals day.
The Junior division saw a standout performance from the duo of Hunter Pang and Jack Yan. The pair displayed tactical brilliance on the court to stay in a tough final against tennis powerhouse St Kentigern. After winning two very tight sets, the team was crowned the Junior Boys Doubles Champions. Hunter Pang’s individual campaign was equally impressive as he reached the Junior Boys Singles final. While an unfortunate injury forced him to default the final match, his silver medal remains a testament to his dominance throughout the tournament.
In the Intermediate Girls division, Rangitoto achieved the ultimate success by turning the championship match into an all-school affair. Aviva Kurtovic and Katya Horrocks both played some tough opponents on their way through to their final matchup. In a high-quality display of tennis, Aviva won the title, with Katya finishing as a very worthy finalist in what was a very close match. This “one-two” finish highlighted the incredible talent of our girls and also saw them pair up in doubles, where they were knocked out in the semifinals.
Rounding out the success was Raymond Huang in the Intermediate Boys Singles. Facing many seeded players, Raymond’s consistency and mental toughness carried him to the final, where he finished as the runner-up.
These results reflect the dedication of the players and the strength of the Rangitoto tennis community. We are so proud of their efforts and look forward to 2027.
