Rangi Pride Shines in Term 1 Touch
It has been an action-packed Term 1 for our Touch athletes, defined by grit, talent, and exemplary ‘Rangi Pride’ – Despite challenges with field availability, our players conducted themselves with outstanding sportsmanship on and off the field.
Premier Girls: A Clinical Finish
Under the expert guidance of Coach Maraea, the Premier Girls have shown immense growth and receptiveness to new styles of play. After navigating a tough schedule against the likes of St Kentigerns and Westlake, the team reached a new level of performance at the Auckland Champs. Losing only one game all day, they secured a prestigious 5th place in the region.
The season concluded on a high note with clinical victories over Epsom Girls Grammar and Carmel College. We especially want to highlight the clinical finishing out wide from our newest squad members: Reed, Baylee, and Isla.
Building for NZSS Nationals
These strong performances provide a fantastic platform as we look ahead to the NZSS Touch Nationals at the end of the year. The foundation is set, the talent is evident, and the momentum is building!
Our Support Stars
Success is a team effort, and we owe a HUGE HUGE thank you to:
- Coach Maraea: For those 7:00am starts and unwavering commitment to the girls.
- Wayne (Rhodes Physiotherapy): For providing top-tier expert care as our resident physio and support across a number of sporting codes.
- Wade: For ensuring the team’s logistics were seamless.
- Nathan: For providing the best officiating we’ve seen all season.
Tag Football Success
This season was a record-breaker for Rangitoto Tag! We took our largest group ever. Four teams—to the CNW Zone day, and the skill on display at Moire Park was outstanding.
- Regional Dominance: Both our Boys and Girls teams placed in the Top 4 at the Central Nor-Western Zones, qualifying them for Auckland Champs where the best play against the best.
- The Finals: The Boys team played with massive heart against tough competition like Rosmini and De La Salle, eventually taking the Silver after a hard-fought 6-3 Grand Final against the heavy favourites St Paul’s.
- A High Note: Our Girls team showed incredible resilience, bouncing back from a draw and a loss to sweep their remaining games and finish the tournament on a high.
