A busy term for our Year 12 Gateway and Year 13 Pathways to Employment students

Year 12 Gateway and Year 13 Pathways to Employment are subjects with a focus. Students learn real-life skills to support them along their career pathway, manage time, handle an interview, develop communication and customer service skills, explore career pathways, listen to guest speakers, and participate in workshops.

They’ve already discovered what employers are looking for, such as a good attitude, enthusiasm, and reliability.

As part of the course, students are especially looking forward to going out on work experience to learn more about the ‘real world’ and future career options.

So far this term, all students have attended a marine presentation and trades presentation, with many keen to gain work experience placements in these industries.  The Year 12 Gateway students will be attending a communication workshop where they will learn how to effectively communicate with staff and the public, listen actively and also gain some effective problem solving skills.  The Year 13 Pathways to Employment students will attend a one-day course learning about drug and alcohol problems in the workplace, and also learn about mental health wellbeing and challenges.

If your business may be able to help out with offering a work experience workplace for one of our students, please get in touch with [email protected]. Work experience is for one day a week for five weeks at no cost to the employer.
