BACK

Kia ora, my name is Hanae Kidoguchi, and I had the privilege of attending the annual International Conference at Takapuna Grammar School in March, where I met a variety of wonderful fellow international students. During the conference, we greeted the Takapuna International leaders, their principal, and their guest speakers. We participated in events such as networking, one-on-one speed conversations where we shared our taonga, and collaborative planning sessions where we brainstormed an event to host and planned the logistics to present at the end of the day.

Through this, I was able to learn about a vast variety of different experiences, cultures, and stories while making valuable connections with others, such as Japanese students who came to New Zealand on a rugby scholarship. Because the day was focused on brainstorming, sharing, and developing ideas to improve the quality of school life for international students, there was so much that I could take back to Rangitoto.  I am astonished at the different ways various schools celebrate their international students. This experience helped me realize the importance of diversity and creativity, and it motivated me to strive to improve our school and community.
