The tenth-year anniversary of Rangitoto College’s Chinese Night took place this term where our incredible students came together to celebrate the Chinese culture of our school. As always, the night was filled with a diverse array of exquisite performances that showcased students’ dedication and efforts.

From dynamic contemporary bands and Chinese hip hop to our time-honoured traditional acts like Umbrella dance (伞舞) and Sleeve dance (水袖舞). We were proud to introduce each performance that came on stage. It was especially spectacular to see crowd-favourites like Diabolo (空竹) and Lion Dance (舞狮) return with new tricks up their sleeves to wow the audience. It was also amazing to see new acts take to the stage alongside our older ones, like a string quintet and a Dai Zu dance (傣族舞).

Going forward, we hope to continue to see a greater range of acts take to the stage. The Chinese culture within our school is immense. Our aim is to continue to try and capture its essence within this night.

Once again, it has been an absolute pleasure to work together. Students involved were able to walk away from the night with good memories and positive experiences. A massive shout-out goes to the Chinese Leadership Committee and their leaders, Haidi Huang and Ryan Li, for making this night as successful as it was.
