Amongst us, we have students who are at the pinnacle of their chosen fields—and Monique Wieruszowski is one of them. Through hard work, resilience, and countless sacrifices, Monique has achieved outstanding success at the New Zealand Swimming Championships.

Her specialty is breaststroke, where she currently holds the national title in the 50m event. Last year, she set a new New Zealand national record with a time of 30.38 seconds.

At the NZ Swimming Championships, Monique achieved remarkable results:

  • Gold Medals in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke, becoming the National Champion in all three distances.
  • Gold Medal in the relay women’s event.
  • Gold Medals  (17-18 yrs) in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke
  • Gold Medal (17  – 18 yrs)  in the individual medley.
  • Bronze Medal in the open 200m individual medley—a race she had never competed in before.
  • Silver Medal in the open mixed 4x100m relay.
  • Bronze Medal in the age group 50m freestyle.

In total, Monique brought home 11 medals—an incredible achievement that reflects her dedication and talent.

Next, she will represent New Zealand at the Junior World Championships in Romania this August.

With her resilience, humility, and unwavering focus, Monique is on track to achieve her ultimate goals: a Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow 2026, and then on to the LA Olympics in 2028.
