Rangitoto College once again welcomed the New Zealand Blood Service for our annual Blood Drive on the 3rd and 4th of June. Both staff and Year 11, 12, and 13 students supported this life-saving cause. Over 55 litres of blood were collected from 128 successful donations, which could save 384 lives! Each donation can save up to three lives, with the blood used for patients who critically require transfusions nationwide. One in three people in Aotearoa will need blood in their lifetime, but only 4% of eligible individuals donate. The NZ Blood Service plays a crucial role in New Zealand’s healthcare system by collecting, processing, and distributing blood and plasma to hospitals across the country. Over 5,000 donations are needed weekly to meet our hospitals’ demand. We thank the NZ Blood Service for bringing this wonderful cause to our school! Our gratitude goes to the Community and Environment and the Service Leadership Teams, along with teachers Karen Neale and Emma McDonald, who led this fantastic event. We are immensely grateful to everyone who donated and supported this remarkable life-saving initiative! Ka pai!
