Mr Mike Shaw

(Chairman)

Mr Shaw has broad experience in science, education, public relations and business.  He is currently the Director of Student Communications for Auckland University of Technology, where he plays an active role in student support.  Mr Shaw is due to complete his MBA in 2018 and is also a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.

Mr Shaw has lived on the North Shore since 2005 and together with his wife Katrina has four children; including a daughter who graduated Rangitoto College in 2017 and a son in Year 12 for 2018

Mr Rodney Knight

(Vice-Chairman)

Mr Knight is currently the Head of Compliance and Risk at Public Trust. His career has been in the Finance sector, working at The Treasury and then BNZ before joining Public Trust. His experience includes treasury, risk management, corporate banking and various forms of specialised finance. He also mentors young professionals through industry bodies.

Mr Knight and his wife Lynley have three children, two of which are current pupils at Rangitoto College. He strongly believes in the importance of both academic and co-curricular achievement. His desire to serve on the Board of Trustees is best illustrated by his own school's motto: "Accept the light and pass it on".

Mr Charles Roos

(Parent Representative)

Mr Roos was elected to the Board in 2010. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer with over 25 years' experience, both locally and overseas. Mr Roos was born on the North Shore and other than four years spent living in the United Kingdom, has always lived here. He and his wife Helen have two children, who both attended Rangitoto College.

Dr Naseem Ameer Ali

(Parent Representative)

Dr Ameer Ali is a construction industry professional qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Chartered Construction Manager, Accredited Mediator, Adjudicator and Arbitrator. He has worked in the construction industries in the United Kingdom and Malaysia and is now a Senior Lecturer at Massey University.

His wife, Nazimah, lectures in Food Science at AUT University, and they have four children. They are all two years apart at school with two attending Rangitoto College and one still to come. Trying to keep up with his children, he swims every day.

Ms Sylvia Heywood

(Parent Representative)

Ms Heywood is the Academic Manager at Professional IQ College. She has worked in the New Zealand tertiary education sector for the last 16 years. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from Massey University and a Diploma in Training Management gained in the UK. She has a strong quality assurance background and is passionate about education and training.

Ms Heywood's daughter is married and lives in Australia. Ms Heywood is married to James who is an Electrician at Downer New Zealand. They have lived on the North Shore for the last 13 years and enjoy hosting international students.

Mr John Fowler

(Co-opted Member)

Mr Fowler is a lawyer and currently works as legal counsel at Northpower Limited.  He and his wife recently relocated to Whangarei.  Both of them recognise the support they have received in the past and are therefore passionate about contributing to the community.  Mr Fowler appreciates the influence which schools have in shaping Auckland's community and culture.  In his spare time, he enjoys playing volleyball, surfing and gardening.

Mr James Searle

(Staff Representative)

Mr Searle is currently in his forth year as a teacher at Rangitoto College.  He previously taught History for three years and was a Dean at Rangitoto College before a four year hiatus in the United Kingdom.  Whilst abroad he continued to teach History in central London while traveling throughout Europe, Africa and Asia.  Upon his return to the College he has taken up the role of Curriculum Leader of History and is once again coaching rugby, which he is very passionate about.

He grew up on the North Shore and currently resides in Kumeu with his partner Kara.  He is currently training for the upcoming triathlon season.

Mr Tikshan Ghoorah

(Student Representative)

Mr Ghoorah is a Year 13 student at Rangitoto College. Along with his role on on the Board of Trustees, he has also been appointed as Deputy Head Boy for 2018 and is the student representative on the Health and Safety Committee.  He has played badminton and petanque competitively as part of school teams for several years.  Some of the other groups he is involved in at the College include Duke of Edinburgh, being a Student Librarian and part of Amnesty International. While actively immersing himself in extra-curricular life outside the classroom, he tries to maintain a good academic record, such as being Top 20 Academic Scholar for 2016 and 2017 NCEA results.

Mr Patrick Gale

(Principal)

Mr Gale joined the College as Principal in July 2017.  Before joining us he was Principal of Kaipara College, having previously been Associate Headmaster at Rosmini College.  Mr Gale completed a Masters in Educational Leadership at AUT following his initial studies in Geography at University College, London.  Mr Gale and his family have lived in Mairangi Bay for the past 16 years.  His wife Kate is also a teacher and their two daughters attend local schools.

Mrs Angela Offwood

(Board Secretary)

Mrs Offwood joined the College as Principals EA and BoT Secretary in February 2018.  Prior to this she was working for an Investment Advisory Firm for the past 12 years and has been in the finance sector for 30 years.
Mrs Offwood is married and has two daughters who attend Rangitoto College in Years 9 and 10 for 2018.

Board meetings are public meetings which anyone is entitled to attend with prior arrangement through the Board Secretary. Members of the public can also request a copy of the meeting minutes by emailing Mrs Offwood.
