Mr Charles Roos
Mr Roos was elected to the Board in 2010. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer with over 25 years' experience, both locally and overseas. Mr Roos was born on the North Shore and other than four years spent living in the United Kingdom, has always lived here. He and his wife Helen have two children, who both attended Rangitoto College.
Mr Mike Shaw
Mr Shaw has experience in science, education, public relations and marketing. He is currently the Communications Manager for Plant & Food Research and studying part-time towards his MBA at AUT University. Mr Shaw was also the recipient of a 2016 NZSTA Study Award and will be completing the Institute of Directors Essentials of Governance Programme.
Mr Shaw has lived on the North Shore since 2005 and together with his wife Katrina has four children. Twho of which are currently attending Rangitoto College, a son in Year 11 and a daughter in Year 13.
Dr Naseem Ameer Ali
Dr Ameer Ali is a construction industry professional qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Chartered Construction Manager, Accredited Mediator, Adjudicator and Arbitrator. He has worked in the construction industries in the United Kingdom and Malaysia and is now a Senior Lecturer at Massey University.
His wife, Nazimah, lectures in Food Science at AUT University, and they have four children. They are all two years apart at school with two attending Rangitoto College and once still to come. Trying to keep up with his children, he swims every day.
Ms Sylvia Heywood
Ms Heywood is the Academic Manager at Professional IQ College. She has worked in the New Zealand tertiary education sector for the last 16 years. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from Massey University and a Diploma in Training Management gained in the UK. She has a strong quality assurance background and is passionate about education and training.
Ms Heywood's daughter is married and lives in Australia. Ms Heywood is married to James who is an Electrician at Downer New Zealand. They have lived on the North Shore for the last 13 years and enjoy hosting international students.
Mr Rodney Knight
Mr Knight is currently the Head of Compliance and Risk at Public Trust. His career has been in the Finance sector, working at The Treasury and then BNZ before joining Public Trust. His experience includes treasury, risk management, corporate banking and various forms of specialised finance. He also mentors young professionals through industry bodies.
Mr Knight and his wife Lynley have three children, two of which are current pupils at Rangitoto College. He strongly believes in the importance of both academic and co-curricular achievement. His desire to serve on the Board of Trustees is best illustrated by his own school's motto: "Accept the light and pass it on".
Mr John Fowler
Mr Fowler is a Senior Solicitor specialising in dispute resolution at Minter Ellison Rudd Watts. He and his wife recently returned from a two year stint of work and travel overseas to settle in Auckland. Both of them recognise the support they have received in the past and are passionate about giving back to the community. Mr Fowler appreciated the influence schools have in shaping Auckland's community and culture. In his spare time, he enjoys playing volleyball and gardening.
Mr James Searle
Mr Searle is currently in his forth year as a teacher at Rangitoto College. He previously taught History for three years and was a Dean at Rangitoto College before a four year hiatus in the United Kingdom. Whilst abroad he continued to teach History in central London while traveling throughout Europe, Africa and Asia. Upon his return to the College he has taken up the role of Curriculum Leader of History and is once again coaching rugby, which he is very passionate about.
He grew up on the North Shore and currently resides in Kumeu with his partner Kara. He is currently training for the upcoming triathlon season.
Mr Joon Im
Mr Im is a Year 13 student at Rangitoto College, involved in a number of groups at the College including Orchestra, the Fundamentals Choir, Debating, Duke of Edinburgh and the school production. In September he traveled to Cambodia as part of the 2016 house building group. As an aspiring and enthusiastic individual, he also occupies a number of leadership positions such as being one of the Year 13 student leaders, Amnesty International leader and 2017 student representative on the Health and Safety Committee. As well as heavily contributing to the College community, he individually strives to maintain good academic results such as being one of the Top 20 Academic Scholars for 2015 NCEA results.
Mr Don Hastie
Mr Hastie was appointed Acting Principal of Rangitoto College with effect from 1 May 2017.
Mrs Caroline Thomas
Mrs Thomas joined the College as Principals PA and BOT Secretary in August 2016. Prior to this, she was at Scots College in Wellington for 3 years as the Headmasters PA and BOT Secretary, after returning home from 12 years in London where she worked in the Investment Banking sector as a PA and Business Manager. Mrs Thomas is married and has 2 children.
Board meetings are public meetings which anyone is entitled to attend with prior arrangement through the Board Secretary. Members of the public can also request a copy of the meeting minutes by emailing Mrs Thomas.
