Working in conjunction with the World Class Sailing Champions at Murrays Bay Sailing Club, we have put together a fantastic Sailing Academy to provide international students with an experience they might never be exposed to in their native countries. If they have a passion to get out on the water and learn to sail with some of the best coaches and sailors in New Zealand, then this is the right programme to join.
Sailing at Rangitoto College
New Zealand is surrounded by oceans on either side and sailing is a favourite pastime for New Zealanders. Rangitoto College and Murrays Bay Sailing Club are proud to provide a fantastic sailing academy for beginners and intermediate level students. This programme offers students a unique experience and a chance to learn and develop sailing skills, confidence, courage, practical water safety and team work skills.
Rangitoto College is excited to offer this unique sailing programme and are proud to be the only school on the North Shore to offer this to experience to International Students.
Students can join the Sailing programme during Term 1 (Sailing Season) or Term 4 (Sailing Season).
The academy includes:
- 5 x 6 hour days, once a week for 5 weeks (Total of 30 hours)
- Ages 13-18 years old
- Learn to sail in a safe and controlled environment
- Learn at your own pace
- Motor boat experience
- Practical water safety lessons
- Wharf jumps
- Fun destination sails
- Lessons provided by professional coaches
- Murrays Bay Sailing club will provide (life jackets, club boats, all sailing boat requirements)
- Certification upon completion of the course
Students will be required to provide their own:
- Wetsuit – these can be purchased from a few local retailers such as Torpedo7, Wettie Wetsuits and The Warehouse
- Packed lunch
- 3 litres water
- Sun hat
- Closed toe shoes
We can accept both male and female students (13-18 years old) who have never sailed before or who are of intermediate level sailing ability. A good understanding of English and spoken English is required as you need to be able to listen and follow instructions. Students must be able to swim 50m with a life jacket and 25m unaided.
- Term 1 (February – April) $900
- Term 4 (October – December) $900
To join the Sailing Program, students must enrol at Rangitoto College as an international student. Students must also fill out the learn to sail sign up form, this can be requested by emailing the international department email@example.com. Parents of students will be required to sign a permission form which will be sent once the application has been processed.
